Blank in Three Acts

The paper is laid out to form a wall, folds into a maze of models, vanishes like the flickering light on a movie screen.

BLANK IN THREE ACTS resignifies the blank page by unfolding time and textures. The page has never been blank: it condenses the cartography of a creative process and draws the map with invisible ink to inhabit the void. As a play in three acts, this new proposal invites you to experience the design processes of Rozana Montiel’s studio. The paper is laid out to form a wall, folds into a maze of models, vanishes like the flickering light on a movie screen. The same element builds different spaces by its sole transformation. Fifty projects drawn freehand at different scales form a net to catch in the act the mysterious moment in which an idea is conceived. Act I –Inhabiting the void– is an interaction with thousands of blank sheets that, for a year, hovered on the walls of the museum hall behind closed doors because the mounting of the Rozana Montiel exhibit to which they belonged was interrupted due to the 2020 pandemic. It brings together a series of performance acts developed by Rozana Montiel, Mar Sierra and Era Antiló exploring empty space through words and movement. Act II –Blank thinking sheets– consist of a blank room: a space to think about the relationships between void and architecture. Blank thinking sheets redraws the projects of Rozana Montiel’s studio on sheets of recycled paper. Lastly Act III –Manifesto – exposes the main principles tthat turn actions into projects in the practice of Rozana Montiel.

As a play in three acts, this new proposal invites you to experience the design processes of Rozana Montiel’s studio.
