XV National Biennial of Mexican Architecture 2018

The public space rehabilitation project “Fresnillo” by Rozana Montiel Estudio de Arquitectura in collaboration with Alin V Wallach, won honorable mention in the category “Open, recreational and landscape spaces” at the XV National and International Biennial of Mexican Architecture 2018.

Rozana Montiel is the only Mexican architect individually invited this year to the 16th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia: Freespece, curated by Yvonne Farrell & Shelley McNamara, with the Stand Ground proposal.

Common Unity, winner of the MCHAP 2018 Award for Emerging Architecture

Our “Common-Unity” project in collaboration with Alin V Wallach and INFONAVIT, wins the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP) Emerge Award, for being an outstanding design project capable of integrating architecture to its broader human concerns.  

“Common-Unity” finalist for the MCHAP Prize.

  “Common-Unity” has been selected as one of four emerging-practice finalists for the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP) granted by Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) College of Architecture. Rozana Montiel will present her project and professional trajectory at a private event in the Crown Hall, Chicago, on April 12.  Project in collaboration with Alin V. Wallach and INFONAVIT.

Rozana Montiel wins Archmarathon Awards 2017

Rozana Montiel wins the Moira Gemmill Prize for Emerging Architecture

The Architectural Review has announced Rozana Montiel as  the winner of the Moira Gemmill Prize for Emerging Architecture 2017. Congratulations!!

Studio Mérida – Graduate School of Design | Harvard University

Rozana will be visiting professor on the class ´HOUSING MÉRIDA YUCATÁN, the urban and the territorial´ by invitation of Jose Castillo. This studio seeks to generate new ideas for fostering sustainable urbanism through housing, and to address the spatial and social concerns related to sprawl through the lens of a comprehensive and critical planning and urban design studio.


The Urban Age ‘Shaping Cities’ conference at the Biennale Architettura 2016 will investigate how people, institutions, policymakers, investors and designers affect the physical form of cities, and how this impacts on the way we live in cities. Rozana Montiel will be part of the panel discussion about water and small scale shaping of cities.

X BIAU: 2 works from Rozana Montiel | Estudio de Arquitectura

‘Court’ and ‘Common-Unity’, designs of Rozana Montiel | Estudio de Arquitectura carried out with Alin V. Wallach are finalists for X BIAU awards. Both works were part of public space rehabilitation programs supported by INFONAVIT (National Trust for workers housing Institute).

Rozana Montiel in Oslo, Norway

Rozana Montiel, Claudia Rodriguez and Daniel Jaramillo were the guest lectureres in The Oslo School of Architecture and Design -AHO- in Oslo, Norway. The lecture “Edifying Common-Unity” was given on March 3.

DEMO:POLIS – The right to public space

  Rozana Montiel Estudio de Arquitectura participates in DEMO: POLIS: an exhibition that integrates the work of artists, architects and landscape architects, to investigate the meaning of public space for contemporary society. The exhibition will be held from March 12 to May 29, 2016, in Berlin, Germany.


  The Architectural League’s annual Emerging Voices Award spotlights North American individuals and firms with distinct design “voices” that have the potential to influence the disciplines of architecture, landscape architecture, and urban design. The jury reviews significant bodies of realized work and considers accomplishments within the design and academic communities. The work of each Emerging Voice represents the best of its kind, and addresses larger issues within architecture, landscape, and the built environment.

Alejandro Aravena as 15th Biennale di Venezia curator has invited Rozana Montiel | Estudio de Arquitectura, Dellekamp Arquitectos, Tatiana Bilbao and Alejandro Hernández, to be part of the exhibition with the theme ‘Reporting from the front’.

urbanXchanger | A Global Knowledge Exchange Based on the Deutsche Bank Urban Age Award

UrbanXchanger is an international forum of Deutsche Bank project, Alfred Herrhausen Gesellschaft, in which urban practitioners can learn from community initiatives and in which actors from the global North can learn from actors from the global South. Rozana Montiel | Estudio de Arquitectura, Claudia Rodriguez and Daniel Jaramillo, were invited to represent Mexico working with berliner architectural firm SMAQ to carry out urban projects in Mexico and Berlin in the urbanXchanger context.  


INFONAVIT + Jose Castillo + Rozana Montiel were selected to participate in the Rotterdam Architecture Biennial IABR-2016, with the theme ‘All the new housing for the next economy’ that will show the projects of rehabilitation of housing units as part of the ‘Improving The Unit ‘, that is part of our project: Building Common Unity.

Silver Medal – Mexico City 2nd Biennale

Edifying Common-Unity, a rehabilitation of public space, obtained the Silver Medal in the category Urban Design and Public Space Rehabilitation, by the jury of THE SECOND MEXICO CITY ARCHITECTURE BIENNALE. 16 works were awarded from 119 that participated in this call.

Edifying Common Unity got the 3rd prize on the 2015 edition of the Obra del Año Awards.


Rozana Montiel Estudio de Arquitectura participates in the event LATI7UDES that is a 2-day conference in Santiago de Chile co-organized by the School of Architecture at the University of Texas at Austin, USA (UTSOA) and the School of Architecture at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC).Past and present: time and the project in the Americas aims at displaying a full range of projects that deal with these dilemmas.

Finished construction

The construction of our proyect Commom unity is completed, it consist in the rehabilitation the public space of some sectors of the Housing Unit San Pablo Xalpa in Azcapotzalco. The project, in collaboration with Alin V. Wallach, was carried out under the program “Improving the Unit” by order of INFONAVIT.

Highly Commended by The Architectural Review

Our project “Circular Void” carried out with dellekamp Arquitectos, was one of the Highly Commended works in the AR Awards for Emerging Architecture 2014 organized by The Architectural Review in London.

We deliver the latest progress of the project of Propositions, Compositions and Recompositions of the Look. The objective of this project was to rethink the forms of the architectural task to enrich the discipline with an active look. The research was carried out with the grant of National System of Artistic Creators of FONCA.

XXI Jornadas de Arquitectura e Interiorismo.

The Escuela de Arquitectura y Diseño de Interiores of The Universidad Latina de México organized the XXI Jornadas de Arquitectura e Interiorismo, between April 29 and May 3, 2013.

The short film “RUTA” by Cristian Manzutto, premiered at the 2012 Venice Biennale, was screened at Cine Tonalá with the support of LIGA | Espacio para arquitectura. It is a tour of the Jalisco mountain range and the projects that are part of The Pilgrim’s Route.

World Architecture Festival Awards – WAF

The Pilgrim’s Road is nominated in the Future Projects section for the Master Plan category of the 2011 World Architecture Festival Awards (WAF), celebrated in Barcelona. Our project was selected from more than 600 participants from 80 countries  

MIRADAS @ VII encuentro nacional de creadores – michoacán

The 7th edition of this event in Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, consisted in workshops, conferences and artistic residences around the theme “Miradas” in architecture. September 5-9, 2011.


SE OCUPA detonated the action ME LATE TU LOTE as a temporary intervention of space with the ability to self-manage its appearances and disappearances. With this action we sought to show the possibility of an underused space becoming TEMPORARY PUBLIC PROPERTY.


The Epoch Experimental Museum  hosted the conferences that made Postópolis! DF an event that brought together architects, urbanists, artists, urban theorists, historians, audiovisual directors, photographers, activists and musicians around the construction of a general overview of the architectural blogosphere.  

Competition: Recycling ‘Palacio de Lecumberri’

The Department of the Interior (Secretaria de Gobernación) in Mexico, organized the competition ‘Lecumberri – Palacio Nuevo’ (Lecumberri – New Palace), invited several mexican architects for developed recycling proposals of the General Archive of the Nation Old Corridors in a cultural complex for Mexico City. Our project, carried out qith Dellekamp Arquitectos earned the 2nd place in the competition.

Conference at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich

In the conference “Chimalhuacan: Sustainability in poor areas” we discussed a global and local discourse in informal settlements, one of the results we obtained from the project carried out with the support of the Holcim scholarship we obtained in 2007 ..


Our METRO-polis project (catalyst for reactivating and inhabiting disused spaces) was part of the CCA’s call for the theme “Urban Re-Cycling”. The Canadian Center for Architecture (CCA) is a research center and museum with the conviction that architecture is a public affair.

2009 Cemex Awards

PILGRIM´S ROUTE earn first price in URBANISM category  on the XIX CEMEX AWARDS The goal of the prize is to recognize little, middle and big built actual works, that stand out for its constructive, conceptual, technical and aesthetic solutions in countries where CEMEX has coverage.  

Holcim Foundation Grant

The project “Sustainability in poor areas: Chimalhuacan Informal squatter settlements in the context of the local and global discourses” developed with Arturo Ortíz Struck, won the 2007 call for Sustainable Projects of the Holcim Foundation.

FONCA grant

We earned the FONCA Young Creators Grant in 2001 with the project “Habitáculos”.
